Dorothy Katherine Smythe and John Tays Heyer were married on July 18th at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church. A reception followed at the Florentine in downtown Birmingham.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Coley Smythe of Birmingham and the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lester Clifford Longley Jr. of Chattanooga, Tenn. and the late Col. and Mrs. William James Dobson of Arlington, Va. and the late Capt. George Winfered Smythe Jr. of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Richard Leroy Heyer Jr. of Tupelo, Miss. and the grandson of Mr. John Franklin Collins Jr. of Tupelo and the late Mrs. Lisa Nash Collins and the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Leroy Heyer Sr. of Corinth, Miss.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore an ivory embroidered lace gown with a Sabrina neckline. Her veil was handmade by a family friend with the lace from her mother’s wedding gown.
Kimberly Barton Robbins served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Jessica Wiggins Barry, Jenny Shaw Burton, Ashley Daniel Caffey, Amy Floyd Corr, Amy Young Duncan, Bethany Holloway Gannon, Sara Wilson Gunnells, Claire Dunn Lampkin, Lindsey Westbrook Lee, Mary Anne Osborne Phillips, Lindsey Terry Rogers, all of Birmingham; Mary Katharine Elizabeth Eoff of Nashville and Megan McSweeney Spellman of Atlanta. Bridget O’Neal Chase, cousin of the groom was the flower girl.
Dr. Richard Leroy Heyer Jr, father of the groom served as best man. Groomsmen were Jake Morrison Heyer and Richard Leroy Heyer III, brothers of the groom, Brandon Taylor Burks and John Riley Henton, all of Tupelo; Donald Coley Smythe and William George Smythe, brothers of the bride, Matthew Melton Fort and Stewart Walsh Sessums, all of Birmingham; Lucas Connor Ainsworth and William Heston Ray of Jackson, MS; and John Armstrong Milam of Houston, TX.
The ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Doctor T. Michael Morgan. Scripture reading was provided by Dorothy Jean Longley, cousin of the bride of Atlanta. Program attendants were Carrie Newton Gargis of Birmingham and Mary Katherine Boone of New York.
Following a honeymoon in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the couple resides in San Antonio, TX.
